This card is perfect for those who want to fly overseas each year, enjoying the benefits of Qantas, their lounges and some bonus insurance for the road. The main requirement for this card is that you’re earning over $40,000 per year (pre-tax). This card has a $250 annual fee, however, the benefits overshadow the cost by miles. Let’s take a closer look.
When shopping at major groceries and fuel stations you will earn 2 points per dollar on the card. You can also earn 2 points per dollar when using your card for Qantas products and services. This means you can boost your Qantas points when purchasing flights ontop of the points you will earn within the ticket itself. For all other eligible purchase its a 1:1 ratio, and for utilities, governments and the ATO its 0.5 points per one dollar.
You can also request up to 4 supplimentary cards at no extra cost to give to family members and earn points faster. Don’t forget – this card has no points cap! As long as you keep your account in good balance and standing.
One of significant benefits of owning this card is you will receive two complimentary Qantas lounge invites per year. These invitations can be used at any Qantas domestic of international lounge – except for the shared LAX lounge. This is great value and a nice touch to treat yourself and a friend before a flight. Your lounge passes are gifted to you after your first spend with the card, and yes, you are allowed to gift the passes to a friend.
The card comes with Amex insurance benefits which includes medical emergency expenses cover (up to 2.5 million dollars!), transport accidental cover, baggage and documents cover and other benefits. For the full list we recommend you read the PDS here.
Bonus points – where can 80k take you?
When signing up before Feb 29th you need to spend $3000 in the first 3 months of becoming a AMEX card holder. Once you reach the spend you will be sent your whopping 80,000 points after about 8 weeks after the spend period. When receiving the card you will also earn 2,500 bonus points (ontop of the 80,000) if you use your card for any qantas products and services. We recommend using your Amex to book a flight during this period to not let those points go to waste. If you’re not booking a flight yourself, it would be wise to ask your family and friends if they need a flight – and ask them to book using your card!
